Fan Releases Ridge Racer Arcade Collection for PC With Online Multiplayer

by · DSOGaming

Here is something cool for our retro fans. Wanszai has released the Ridge Racer Arcade Collection for PC. It will let you experience the arcade versions of the three Ridge Racer games on PC with some must-have QoL improvements.

Going into more detail, this project brings the three classic Namco System 22 arcade racing games together in one package. In other words, you can play Ridge Racer, Ridge Racer 2, and Rave Racer. The release adds true 16:9 widescreen support, as well as support for racing wheels, shifters, and pedals. It also features system link and online multiplayer.

What’s also interesting here is that it allows you to render the game up to 4K. This is something that was not possible in MAME. As such, you can now get a less-aliased image. Sadly, the textures remain the same. So, in my opinion, the best way to play is with a CRT/scanlines filter.

Ridge Racer Arcade Collection is available for both PC and the Xbox Series consoles. And, to my surprise, there is cross-play support between them.

All in all, this is exactly what I’d expect from an official collection. It’s ironic that a fan was able to deliver what Namco could not. This is how you treat your classic games. The fact that this was developed by a single person is also admirable. It shows how passionate some fans can really be.

You can go ahead and download this Ridge Racer Arcade Collection from here. For those wondering, it does not contain any in-game assets or ROMs. Thus, you’ll have to use your own ROM files. Right now, the project only supports the World ROM sets.

If you’re into projects like these, you can also download the unofficial PC port of Super Mario 64Mario Kart 64Crash Team Racing, and Duke Nukem: Zero Hour. You can also play The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TimeMajora’s MaskPerfect Dark, and Jak & Daxter.

And that’s not all of them. We also have the unofficial PC ports of Mario Party 4Sonic UnleashedGoldenEye 007The Legend of Zelda: Twilight PrincessSilent Hill, and Super Smash Bros 64. Last month, we also shared the unofficial PC ports of Gears of War 2 and Syphon Filter. Finally, you can download PC ports of Diddy Kong Racing and Ace Combat 6.

Have fun!
