English clubs reach all three European finals for first time
by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineEnglish clubs have reached the finals of all three major European competitions in the same season for the first time in history.
Arsenal had earlier secured a place in the UEFA Champions League final after defeating Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.
Aston Villa and Crystal Palace completed the achievement on Thursday night with victories in their respective semi-finals.
Villa overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit to defeat Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest 4-1 on aggregate and qualify for the Europa League final.
Managed by Unai Emery, the club will face German side SC Freiburg in Istanbul on May 20.

Crystal Palace also advanced to the UEFA Europa Conference League final after defeating Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 at Selhurst Park to complete another aggregate victory.
The London club will now face Rayo Vallecano in the final on May 27.
The achievement makes the Premier League the first league to have representatives in the finals of the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League in the same season.
For Aston Villa, the Europa League final offers an opportunity to win the club’s first major trophy in 30 years and a first European title since 1982.
Emery is also chasing a fifth Europa League title after previous triumphs with Sevilla and Villarreal.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, are preparing for the first European final in the club’s history.
The Eagles are looking to continue a successful period after winning the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2025 under manager Oliver Glasner, who is expected to leave at the end of the season.
English clubs had previously come close to achieving the feat in 2025 when Chelsea won the Conference League and Tottenham Hotspur lifted the Europa League trophy, although Arsenal failed to reach the Champions League final after losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.
Italian clubs also reached all three European finals in 2023, but Inter Milan, AS Roma and Fiorentina lost their respective matches.
One of the most dominant European campaigns by a single country came in 1990 when Italian clubs swept all major continental trophies through AC Milan, Juventus and Sampdoria.
