2026 Commonwealth Games: Nigerian trio advance to men’s 100m semifinals

The Nigerian trio will return to action on Tuesday, July 28, as they battle for places in the final and keep the country’s medal hopes alive in the blue-riband event.
Ajayi did not compete in the opening-round heats after receiving a bye directly into the semifinals.
The sprint sensation was among a select group of athletes exempted from the heats, allowing him to turn his attention directly to Tuesday’s semifinal.
National champion Ashe, meanwhile, delivered an impressive performance in Heat 1, cruising to victory in 10.10 seconds with a +1.5 wind reading.
Ashe opened a commanding advantage before easing off in the closing metres to comfortably secure his semifinal ticket.
Adekalu completed Nigeria’s three-man representation in the next round after producing a strong performance in Heat 10.
The Nigerian finished second in 10.21 seconds with a +1.4 wind reading to earn automatic qualification for the semifinals.

With Ajayi receiving a bye and Ashe and Adekalu successfully negotiating their respective heats, all three Nigerian entrants remain in contention for the men’s 100m title.
The trio will compete in the semifinals on Tuesday, with the event scheduled for 7:10pm.
Nigeria will now hope Ajayi, Ashe and Adekalu can continue their impressive run and secure places in the final as the country pushes for another medal at Glasgow 2026.
