Modric opened the scoring before Pasalic struck in the second half to secure the victory for Croatia and give returning coach Slaven Bilic a winning start.
Speaking to UEFA after the match, Pasalic expressed his delight at Modric’s contribution and hailed the veteran midfielder’s continued influence.
Pasalic said: “The first goal from Luka Modric was excellent! I am really happy for him!
“He proves that age is only a number! On the pitch, he makes the difference and is truly a legend.”
Mateo Kovacic also praised the squad’s immediate response to Bilic’s return, while paying tribute to former coach Zlatko Dalic.

Kovacic said: “First, I have to thank Zlatko Dalic for everything.
“But with Bilic, everything clicked immediately, and everyone is working together as one.”
The victory gives Croatia three points from their opening Nations League fixture, while Czechia coach Santi Denia will now look to respond in their next match against England.
