Real Madrid have secured the future of Antonio Rudiger after the German defender signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2027.

The Spanish giants confirmed the agreement on Tuesday, ending speculation surrounding the experienced centre-back’s future and ensuring continuity in the club’s defensive unit during a period of significant transition.

“Real Madrid and Antonio Rudiger have agreed the extension of our player’s contract, who will stay at the club until June 30, 2027,” the club said in a statement.

The new deal adds an extra year to Rudiger’s existing contract and comes despite reported interest from other clubs.

The 33-year-old had initially sought a longer-term commitment but ultimately accepted Real Madrid’s long-standing policy of offering one-year rolling contracts to players over the age of 30.

Rudiger joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2022 after previous spells with Stuttgart and Roma, and has since become an important figure in the club’s defence.

During his time in Spain, he helped Los Blancos win La Liga and the UEFA Champions League in 2024, having also lifted the Copa del Rey in 2023.

The contract extension provides added stability at the back for Madrid following the departures of veteran defenders Dani Carvajal and David Alaba.

Rudiger’s most recent campaign was disrupted by setbacks that limited him to 26 appearances across all competitions, but the club has retained confidence in his experience and leadership qualities.

The renewal arrives as Real Madrid continue an extensive rebuilding process under newly appointed manager José Mourinho.

Club president Florentino Perez turned to Mourinho earlier this month after Real Madrid endured two consecutive seasons without winning a major trophy.

Madrid have already begun strengthening the squad ahead of the new campaign, announcing the signing of Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea on Monday.

The club have also been linked with further additions, including Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries and Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, who is reportedly expected to join at the end of his contract at Anfield.

Rudiger is currently away on international duty with Germany at the FIFA World Cup, but his contract extension ensures he will remain a central part of Real Madrid’s plans as the club seeks a return to silverware under Mourinho.
