Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Ogun State Police Command have recorded a breakthrough in the crackdown on violent crimes with the arrest of two key suspects belonging to a notorious one-chance robbery syndicate operating within the Abeokuta metropolis after a high-speed chase.

The spokesman of the command and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, made this known on Tuesday.

In a statement he issued to newsmen, Babaseyi said the two male suspects, identified as Bidemi Tijani, 29, and Olajide Rasaq, 42, were apprehended on August 15, 2026 following an intelligence-led operation.

The arrest was effected after the Command received an actionable intelligence revealing that members of the syndicate who routinely disguise as commercial taxi operators to dispossess unsuspecting passengers of their mobile phones, cash, and valuable items were sighted in a taxi heading towards the Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta.

Acting promptly on the tip-off, tactical operatives of the VCRU gave the fleeing robbers a hot chase towards Ita-Oshin, successfully intercepting the vehicle and apprehending the two suspects.

Upon interrogation and putting down their statements under caution, both suspects confessed to being active members of the one-chance robbery syndicate terrorising commuters within the Abeokuta metropolis.

Babaseyi said efforts are currently being intensified by operatives to track down and apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, establish the full extent of their activities, and recover necessary exhibits.

The command’s Commissioner, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives of the VCRU for their swift response, operational vigilance, and tactical professionalism.
