Arsenal move level with Man City after 2-0 win over Everton
by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineArsenal secured a 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton to move level on points with leaders Manchester City, while Toffees manager David Moyes extended his winless record away against reigning champions to 20 matches.
Everton arrived after suffering their first defeat of the season against Chelsea, but their difficult afternoon continued when Arsenal took the lead in the seventh minute.
An Arsenal corner caused confusion in the Everton penalty area, with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and Vitali Mykolenko both failing to clear the ball. Ezri Konsa capitalised from close range to score his first goal for the Gunners and give the hosts an early advantage.
Everton threatened through Tyrique George, who cut inside before firing wide of the far post. Gabriel was also required to clear the ball off the line following a scramble from a set-piece.
Arsenal created further opportunities as the half progressed, with Noni Madueke sending two efforts narrowly wide and Mikel Merino heading off target.
Everton nearly equalised before the break when David Raya reacted quickly to deny Thierno Barry after Ben White misjudged a header back towards his goalkeeper.
Gabriel appeared to suffer a knee problem 10 minutes into the second half, but the Brazilian continued and later doubled Arsenal’s lead.
The defender rose highest to head home White’s cross with 22 minutes remaining, putting the Gunners in a strong position to claim all three points.
Everton struggled to mount a comeback, having failed to register a shot on target up to that stage. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall came close late on, but his glancing header bounced narrowly wide.
