Donald Trump to honour Elon Musk with US national medal of science
by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineUS President Donald Trump will on Thursday present billionaire Elon Musk with the National Medal of Science during a White House summit focused on scientific advancement. The medal is the highest US honour for scientists and engineers.
Musk will receive the honour alongside Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) CEO Lisa Su.
Dell Technologies chief Michael Dell and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella are also set to receive the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the country’s top recognition for technological achievement.
The awards will be presented at the White House’s “Science: A New Golden Age” summit, which is based on a report released by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in July 2026.
The event comes after a highly publicised falling-out between Trump and Musk, who briefly led the administration’s drive to reduce the federal workforce.
CNBC reported that Musk contributed more than $290m to Trump’s 2024 campaign, while each of the honourees has backed Trump or Republican causes in some form.
White House spokeswoman Liz Huston said: “These recipients are helping ensure America keeps leading the world in innovation.”
