Just in: Chelsea miss out on Enzo Fernandez replacement after Monaco late transfer U-turn
by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineChelsea have been left without Enzo Fernandez’s replacement after AS Monaco pulled out of a £47 million deal for Lamine Camara in the final hours of the transfer window.
Chelsea had reached a complete club-to-club agreement with Monaco for the 22-year-old Senegalese midfielder, with signed documents exchanged and a medical scheduled.
Camara had also agreed to a six-year contract, but Monaco dramatically reversed their decision before the 11pm deadline.
The French club had only wanted to allow one major departure on Deadline Day, with Camara’s move to Chelsea initially given the green light after Folarin Balogun’s proposed transfer to Everton appeared to be collapsing.
However, when Everton returned with a restructured offer for Balogun, Monaco chose to keep Camara and pulled the plug on the agreement with Chelsea.
The decision left Chelsea in a difficult position after the club had already sanctioned Enzo Fernandez’s British-record £125 million move to Manchester City.

Chelsea had proceeded with Fernandez’s sale on the assumption that Camara would arrive as his replacement, but Monaco’s late U-turn meant the Blues were left without the midfielder they had lined up.
Chelsea officials were reportedly furious with Monaco and described the late cancellation as “deeply unprofessional”.
Despite the collapse of the Camara deal, Chelsea honoured their agreement with Manchester City and allowed Fernandez to leave.
Monaco’s refusal to sign the official transfer deal sheet before the 11pm deadline meant there was no chance of the Camara transfer being revived.
