El-Rufai: NSCIA gives reasons over silence on prosecution, warns against manipulation
by Tajudeen Balogun · The Eagle OnlineThe Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has said that it has persistently exercised restraint on the controversy surrounding the prosecutions of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, because it considers it “as a standard judicial process”.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, on behalf of NSCIA, on Tuesday.
Oloyede, the immediate past Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, disclosed in the statement that the Council hitherto considered the prosecution as a standard judicial process, submitting that the judiciary has inherent capacity to uphold justice.
The statement reads in part: “However, recent developments in the public domain have raised serious concerns that strongly suggest an extraneous involvement of an underlying religious bias against the former Governor.
“Consequently, the Council calls upon the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Judiciary to ensure that individuals with vested religious interests are strictly prevented from weaponizing public institutions or the legal system to execute a sectarian agenda against him.
“Furthermore, the Council appeals to the general public to refrain from incendiary comments that could prejudice the fair trial of Mallam ElRufai or exacerbate the security situation in our nation”.

Oloyede prayed for peace, stability, and security to rein in Nigeria.
The Eagleonline reports that El-Rufai has been held by the security agencies, over his outburst that he tapped the phone line of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
The former Governor is a chieftain of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
