Petronas signs five year LNG supply deal with Greece’s Metlen
by Athens Bureau · Greek City TimesMalaysia’s state owned energy giant Petronas has signed a five year agreement to supply liquefied natural gas to Greek energy company Metlen, strengthening Greece’s role as an emerging energy hub in Southeast Europe.
Through its subsidiary PETCO Trading (UK) Ltd, Petronas will supply Metlen with six LNG cargoes each year from its Atlantic portfolio under the sale and purchase agreement.
The deliveries are expected to total around 0.6 billion cubic metres of LNG annually, beginning in 2027.
The agreement is designed to diversify Metlen’s LNG supply sources while providing greater flexibility in procurement and strengthening energy security in Greece and the wider Southeast European region.
Petronas said the deal supports its strategy of expanding its LNG presence in markets west of the Suez Canal, with Europe and the Mediterranean identified as key areas for growth.
The Malaysian energy group will use its global LNG portfolio and trading capabilities to supply the Greek company under the long term arrangement.
Metlen said the agreement would strengthen Greece’s position as a regional energy hub while improving the flexibility and reliability of its LNG supplies.
The deal also marks a new stage of cooperation between Petronas and Metlen, with both companies indicating that it could create opportunities for further collaboration in the future.
The agreement comes as Greece continues to expand its role in the regional energy market, supported by its LNG infrastructure and growing connections with Southeast European energy networks.
