The investigation into the death of Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis is expanding, with authorities examining the financial activities of the two doctors who have been remanded in custody, their clientele and evidence recovered from electronic devices.
According to reports cited by Documento and ERT, investigators are examining the professional and financial records of the couple as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mazonakis’ death following a plasmapheresis treatment.
Authorities examine clinic finances and clientele
Investigators are reportedly examining payments received by the doctors for services provided at the clinic, as well as whether all professional income was properly declared.
The clinic’s clientele is also under scrutiny.
Mazonakis was reportedly not the only well known person to have visited the facility. Public statements and witness accounts have indicated that celebrities, journalists, businesspeople and politicians had also been clients.
Authorities are examining whether the records of these individuals could provide information relevant to the investigation.
Mobile phones, computers and other digital devices seized from the clinic are also being analysed.
Investigators are reportedly looking for communications and financial transactions that could help establish the sequence of events and determine whether other people had any involvement in the case.
Phone records and digital evidence
The lifting of telephone secrecy is expected to form an important part of the investigation.
Authorities are examining communications between people connected to the case and comparing them with witness statements and other evidence contained in the investigation file.
Digital evidence from mobile phones, computers and tablets is also being reviewed as investigators continue to reconstruct what happened before and after the treatment that preceded Mazonakis’ death.
The financial investigation could take considerable time as authorities examine transactions and professional activity over an extended period.
Hypnotherapist expected to testify
Another part of the investigation concerns two photographs taken during the fatal plasmapheresis treatment.
According to the report, a hypnotherapist who received one of the photographs is expected to appear before the investigating authorities on Monday.
The photographs are being examined alongside witness testimony and digital evidence as investigators attempt to establish their origin, circumstances and significance.
Authorities have not ruled out further witnesses being called as the investigation progresses.
New woman enters investigation
A new person has also emerged in the investigation, according to a report by MEGA.
The woman is described as being professionally connected to Mazonakis.
According to the report, she allegedly contacted the hypnotherapist by telephone on two occasions and arranged an appointment involving the singer.
The report further claims that Mazonakis himself did not speak directly with the hypnotherapist and that the woman was the person who communicated with him and pushed for Mazonakis to meet him.
If confirmed by investigators, the woman could be called to testify in the coming days.
Her potential testimony could help authorities establish how the appointment was arranged and who was involved in the events leading up to it.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the claims surrounding the doctors, the clinic, the photographs and other individuals remain subject to judicial examination.
No finding of criminal responsibility has been established against any person solely on the basis of the allegations reported so far.
