A Turkish drone was intercepted by Greek F-16 fighter jets south of Alexandroupolis on Friday morning after entering the terminal area of Alexandroupolis Airport.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 a.m., when the Turkish unmanned aircraft entered the airport’s terminal area.

Two Greek fighter jets immediately took off to intercept the drone. At the same time, authorities instructed a civilian aircraft that was preparing to take off to change altitude to avoid crossing paths with the Turkish drone.

The civilian flight faced no danger at any point, according to the information available.

The Greek F-16s intercepted the drone and escorted it out of the Athens FIR, after which it returned to the Turkish FIR.

The incident marks another point of tension involving Turkish unmanned aircraft in the wider area of northeastern Greece.
