Greece Agrees to Keep Patriot Missile Deployment in Saudi Arabia
by Kosta Papadopoulos · Greek City TimesGreece has agreed to Saudi Arabia’s request to keep a Greek Patriot missile battery in the Kingdom amid the current Middle East crisis, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced during a meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud in Riyadh.
Mitsotakis condemned attacks against Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed Greece’s practical solidarity with the Kingdom. Greece has supported Saudi air defence with the Patriot battery since 2021.

They also examined regional developments, with particular attention to Iran and the wider Middle East.
Mitsotakis stressed the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation, noting that Greece, as a major maritime power, places the highest priority on protecting international shipping routes and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of global trade.
He reiterated that all parties must respect international law and avoid imposing restrictions on freedom of navigation, warning that such measures could establish a dangerous precedent.
Greece and Saudi Arabia Advance Digital Connectivity Project
The two leaders also discussed cooperation in digital connectivity, particularly the East to Med Data Corridor (EMC), a project designed to connect Europe and Asia through Greece and Saudi Arabia.
The initiative aims to strengthen digital links between the two regions, positioning both countries as key connection points for international data infrastructure.
Mitsotakis and Mohammed bin Salman also reviewed preparations for the second meeting of the Greece-Saudi Arabia Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation.
The leaders assessed progress since the council’s first meeting in January 2025, which established a structured institutional framework for cooperation across several sectors.
