Greece’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the killing of Syrian Christian Nader Tanous on August 15, calling for an immediate investigation and for those responsible to face justice.
“The perpetrators must face justice”
In a statement, the Greek Foreign Ministry stressed that the killing took place on a day of particular significance for Christianity — the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, celebrated by Christians on August 15.
“The perpetrators of this heinous act must be brought before justice immediately,” the ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry also called for “targeted and effective measures” to protect all communities in Syria and ensure their safety.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends,” the ministry concluded.
Who Was Nader Tanous?
Nader Boulos Tanous was a Syrian Christian originally from Wadi al-Nasara (Valley of the Christians), a predominantly Christian area in western Syria.
His killing in August 2026 has prompted reactions and renewed concerns about the security and protection of religious communities in Syria.
