20-Year-Old Arrested for Posing as Police Officer on Train

A 20-year-old man was arrested in Kifisia, northern Athens, after allegedly posing as a police officer aboard an electric railway train and asking passengers to show their identification.

The young man reportedly approached passengers while wearing a uniform and carrying equipment resembling police gear. He asked them to present their IDs, claiming he was carrying out an identity check.

Authorities noticed his presence and behaviour during checks conducted on public transport. Officers stopped him and arrested him at the Kifisia ISAP station.

During a subsequent search, police found and seized a folding knife, a plastic gun holster, a magazine pouch and a radio.

Police carried out the arrest as part of Operation Ariadne, a plan by the Attica General Police Directorate (GADA) aimed at strengthening passengers’ sense of security on public transport.

The 20-year-old appeared before the competent prosecutor. Authorities filed a case against him for impersonating a public authority and violating weapons legislation.
