Giorgos Mazonakis: The 84 Minutes at the Kolonaki Clinic Now at the Centre of the Investigation

Digital evidence is helping investigators reconstruct the final hours of Giorgos Mazonakis, with particular focus on the 84 minutes between the interruption of his plasmapheresis treatment and the emergency call.

The investigation into the death of Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis is increasingly focusing on a crucial 84 minute period inside a medical clinic in Kolonaki.

According to evidence reported by Greek media, Mazonakis arrived at the Stem Cell clinic on Karneadou Street at around 1:55pm on September 9.

At 2:14:10pm, the clinic’s INUS PHERESIS machine began operating, with digital records showing that the plasmapheresis procedure continued for approximately 42 minutes.

Investigators are now examining what happened during and after the treatment, particularly the period between the machine stopping and the eventual call for emergency medical assistance.

A photograph taken while Mazonakis was unconscious

One of the key pieces of evidence is a photograph taken inside the clinic at 2:45:22pm.

The image reportedly shows Mazonakis lying unconscious while the plasmapheresis machine was still operating.

According to the report, the photograph was taken by doctor Ioanna Gaka and later sent to her husband, doctor Elias Theodoropoulos, who was reportedly outside the clinic at the time.

The machine stopped at approximately 2:57pm, meaning the photograph was taken around 12 minutes before the treatment equipment ceased operating.

From that point, investigators are examining what happened over the next 84 minutes.

The emergency call came at 4:21pm

The next confirmed timestamp in the investigation is the call to Greece’s emergency medical service, EKAB, at 4:21pm.

Authorities are seeking to establish when Mazonakis suffered cardiac arrest, how long resuscitation efforts continued and precisely what occurred before emergency assistance was requested.

The doctors have reportedly told authorities that they attempted to revive the singer, including CPR and the administration of adrenaline.

Once the emergency call was made, the response was rapid.

A first responder reportedly arrived at the clinic at 4:24pm, just three minutes after the call.

An ambulance then transported Mazonakis to Elpis Hospital, where he arrived at approximately 4:45pm.

His death was pronounced at 5:40pm.

Deleted photograph recovered by police

Investigators are also examining digital evidence recovered from Ioanna Gaka’s mobile phone.

According to the report, the photograph taken inside the clinic was deleted from the device at approximately 7:09pm, before Gaka and Theodoropoulos went to the police.

The pair reportedly arrived at the Kypseli Police Department at around 7:45pm.

Police were nevertheless able to recover the deleted photograph, which has now become part of the evidence being examined.

Questions surrounding the plasmapheresis machine

The machine itself has also become an important part of the investigation.

Its digital records reportedly document its operation from 2:14pm until 2:57pm, providing investigators with an independent electronic record of when the procedure began and ended.

The Athens Medical Association has also raised questions about the equipment.

A representative of the association reportedly said the specific plasmapheresis machine had not been presented to the association’s inspection teams during previous checks of the facility.

Authorities are therefore examining not only what happened to Mazonakis during the treatment, but also the circumstances surrounding the equipment and the medical response that followed.

The 84 minutes investigators are trying to reconstruct

2:45:22pm: A photograph is taken showing Mazonakis unconscious while the plasmapheresis machine is operating.

2:57pm: The machine stops operating after approximately 42 minutes.

4:45pm: Mazonakis is transported to Elpis Hospital.

The investigation is now focused heavily on what occurred between 2:57pm and 4:21pm, and whether the available medical, digital and telephone evidence can establish a clear account of those 84 minutes.

Authorities have not publicly reached final conclusions regarding responsibility or the circumstances that led to Mazonakis’ death.

The investigation remains ongoing.
