Greek Basketballer Alexandros Skliros Joins Portland State

Greek basketball prospect Alexandros Skliros has taken the next step in his career by joining Portland State University and moving to the United States to combine his studies with college basketball.

The 18-year-old Greek centre, who previously played for Promitheas, represented Greece at the FIBA U18 European Championship, where the national team finished sixth. Portland State has announced that Skliros will join its roster for the 2026-27 season.

Skliros averaged 5.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.7 blocks in 22.4 minutes per game during the U18 European Championship.

Portland State said it was excited to add Skliros to its programme and highlighted his intensity, physicality and defensive ability.

“We are really excited to have Alexandros join our programme,” the university said. “He plays with toughness, intensity and passion. We particularly like his ability on defence, rebounding and playing through contact.”

The university also highlighted Skliros’ experience in high-level international competitions despite his young age.

“We believe he will fit perfectly with our philosophy,” Portland State said, adding that it looked forward to seeing him continue his development with the programme.

Skliros now becomes the latest young Greek basketball player to pursue a college career in the United States through the NCAA.
