26.8kg Cocaine Linked to Flower Smuggling Operation

Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has uncovered another major drug trafficking case, expanding the revelations from its “Flowers of Evil” operation last week that exposed a large cocaine trafficking network.

The newly established Special Operations Service (DEOS) launched the investigation after receiving information from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) office at the US Embassy in Athens about cocaine allegedly hidden in a storage area next to a house where authorities had seized a large quantity of drugs on September 9, 2026, in Attica.

DEOS inspection teams searched neighbouring storage facilities and unfinished buildings in the area. In a nearby unfinished property owned by the same person who had rented the house to the criminal organisation dismantled on September 9, investigators found 26.8 kilograms of cocaine, a 21-centimetre hunting and survival knife and ammunition of various calibres.

Authorities said the cocaine belonged to the same criminal network and formed part of an earlier cocaine shipment smuggled from Colombia using the same method: concealing the drugs inside bouquets and flowers.

The cocaine came in slabs ready for distribution and carried a distinctive marking matching the markings found on moulds and presses seized from the criminal organisation on September 9. Authorities said the marking identifies the criminal group.

Cocaine hidden underground

During the search, investigators also discovered a large underground water tank and a tunnel-like underground space beneath the unfinished property and an uncovered section of the plot.

Authorities found the seized items carefully concealed inside these hidden spaces.

Prosecutors have opened a criminal case against the owner of the unfinished property, who lives abroad and remains wanted by authorities.

The investigation follows AADE’s “Flowers of Evil” operation, which exposed a major cocaine trafficking network that allegedly used flower shipments to conceal cocaine imported from Colombia.
