Greek PM: Greece Will Neither Threaten nor Bow to Threats (VID)
by Kosta Papadopoulos · Greek City TimesGreek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis declared that Greece is a force for peace that neither threatens other countries nor yields to threats, following the military parade in Thessaloniki on October 28, marking Greece’s national anniversary.
“In the turbulent times we live in, October 28 always reminds us that freedom and peace can never be taken for granted,” Mitsotakis said.
He honoured the generation that stood up to fascism and Nazism, saying its sacrifices had secured freedom and peace and left a legacy of responsibility for today’s leaders. He stressed that his government seeks to fulfil that responsibility through actions rather than words.
Mitsotakis also highlighted the scale of Greece’s defence modernisation programme, describing it as the largest in the history of the Armed Forces. He said the parade gave Greeks, particularly residents of Thessaloniki, the opportunity to see innovative weapons systems designed to strengthen the country’s deterrent capability.

“These systems allow us to project strong deterrent power against anyone who might covet our sovereignty or sovereign rights,” he said.
The prime minister reiterated that Greece does not seek to intimidate others but will not accept intimidation itself.
He also stressed that the country’s defence capabilities depend on economic stability and prosperity. The weapons systems on display, he noted, come at a cost borne by the Greek people.
“Without a prosperous economy and economic stability, no country can project strong deterrent power,” Mitsotakis said.
He concluded by wishing Greeks across the country well on the occasion of the October 28 national anniversary.
