Pavlos Fyssas commemorated 13 years after murder

Memorial events and demonstrations are taking place in Piraeus and Keratsini on Friday, September 18, marking 13 years since the murder of anti fascist musician Pavlos Fyssas.

A series of commemorative events have been organised in the area to mark the anniversary of his death.

The Piraeus Student Coordinating Committee has called on students and teachers to participate in the commemorations. It has also proposed a minute of silence in schools and the symbolic laying of flowers.

The main gathering is scheduled for 5:30pm at the Pavlos Fyssas monument in Keratsini.

A concert was held on Thursday afternoon at the former Fertilisers site in Drapetsona as part of this year’s commemorative events.

Traffic restrictions

The Hellenic Police has announced temporary traffic restrictions in Nikaia and Keratsini from 2pm on Friday.

The measures will be introduced gradually depending on traffic conditions and will affect several major roads.

Restrictions will apply on Salaminos Avenue between Grigoriou Lambraki Avenue and Acropoleos Street; on P. Ralli Avenue between Acropoleos and Tzavella Streets; and on P. Fyssa Street between Grigoriou Lambraki Avenue and Salaminos Avenue.

Traffic measures will also affect Tzavella Street, Ilioupoleos Street and Karakoulouxi Street.

Police have urged drivers to avoid the affected areas where possible and follow traffic signs and instructions from officers.

Fyssas’ murder became a defining case in Greece’s investigation into Golden Dawn and its activities.
