by · Greek City Times

Intracom Defense (IDE), one of Greece’s leading defence industry companies, has appointed Michalis Tsamaz as chairman of its board and Lykourgos Antonopoulos as chief executive officer, as the company seeks to strengthen its international presence and expand its role in defence technology programmes.

The new five-member board was formed following an Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders on 14 October 2026, according to an official company announcement.

Tsamaz, the former head of the OTE Group, takes the position of non-executive chairman, while Antonopoulos assumes the role of managing director and executive board member.

The remaining board members are Stavros Banos and Avraam Moses, both non-executive members, and Angeliki Petropoulou, an executive member.

Tsamaz said the new board would establish the foundations for further strengthening Intracom Defense’s international outreach and innovation.

Antonopoulos said he was taking on his new responsibilities with great appreciation for the achievements of the company and its employees.

Intracom Defense expands its international activity

The leadership change comes as Intracom Defense pursues a range of defence, communications and space technology projects in Greece and abroad.

The company has secured a contract from KNDS Germany to supply its WiSPRevo communications system for the new Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks, according to the report.

IDE is also participating in two European Space Agency projects under the ARTES programme, SIRIUS and STARWAVE-6G, which focus on satellite communications and related technologies.

The company has also presented its PROTEAS DACAS system during the Ambrosius XVIII exercise and participated in the United States-led Project Convergence Capstone 6.

These activities reflect the growing importance of advanced communications, electronic systems and command-and-control technologies in modern military operations.

Role in Greece’s defence modernisation

Intracom Defense is also involved in domestic defence procurement programmes, including the modernisation of Greece’s MEKO 200HN Hydra-class frigates.

The company’s technical proposal for communications systems was accepted as part of the wider upgrade programme, according to the source report.

Greece is seeking to strengthen domestic participation in defence procurement and sustainment under its broader Agenda 2030 military modernisation plans. The objective includes giving Greek defence companies a greater role in supplying technology, supporting equipment and participating in European defence supply chains.

Intracom Defense operates across sectors including military communications, electronics, command-and-control systems and space applications.

The new leadership takes charge as Greece looks to expand the contribution of its domestic defence industry while pursuing international contracts and collaborative European projects.

The company’s ability to build on its existing programmes and secure further business will be an important factor in determining how it advances its domestic and international ambitions.
