Mykonos Hostess Says One Customer Offered Her €2,000
by Bill Giannopoulos · Greek City TimesA young Mykonos hostess said a customer offered her €2,000 for sex while she was working at a nightspot on Matoyianni Street, in a video interview published in September.
The woman, who is from Athens, said she turned the offer down firmly. According to the report, she spent the summer working in reception at a well-known venue in Mykonos Town.
Her account adds to a string of stories from seasonal workers about life behind the island’s glamorous image. Every summer, young people from across Greece take jobs in its bars, clubs and restaurants.
The Mykonos hostess also said a young Australian tourist asked to kiss her feet during her shift. According to the report, he kept asking while she was trying to look after other guests.
However, the report named neither the customer nor the tourist, and it did not identify the venue. It also did not say whether she reported either incident to police or to her employer.
Greek City Times could not independently verify her account.
Why the Mykonos hostess stays
Despite those incidents, she said Mykonos is still the best place in Greece to work a summer season. She pointed mainly to the money, including wages and tips.
Her interview went to a local Mykonos television channel. That channel has run a series of interviews with seasonal workers this year, and several Greek outlets later carried the Mykonos hostess story.
Earlier accounts from the island
In August, Greek City Times reported that four other seasonal workers had described inappropriate behaviour from some customers on Mykonos. One said a customer touched her while she was working, and another said a customer licked her fingers.
Earlier, in April 2025, a viral TikTok video about a hotel job sparked debate over long hours and low pay on the island.
Under International Labour Organization (ILO) standards, unwanted sexual advances at work can amount to harassment. According to the ILO, Greece became the first European country to ratify its Violence and Harassment Convention in August 2021.
The convention covers violence and harassment at work, including gender-based harassment. It applies to both the public and private sectors.
