MJS Memorial Veena Concert

Mysore/Mysuru: A veena concert in memory of Veena Maestro Vidwan M.J. Srinivasa Iyengar (MJS) will be held at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road in city, by renowned veena artiste Vid. R. Parthasarathy from Chennai on May 24 at 6 pm. 

He will be accompanied by Vid. G.S. Ramanujam on mridanga and by Vid. Shamith S. Gowda on ghata.

Artiste’s profile: Vid. R. Parthasarathy is one of the most gifted veena players, who has enthralled audience both in India and abroad with his unique style of playing and has won acclaims both from rasikas as well as critics.

Hailing from a traditional music family, he was under the tutelage of his father Vid. V. Ragahavan, a well-known vainika of Veene Seshanna lineage. He is an ‘A-Top’ graded AIR artiste, panel member of AIR and a Visiting Professor in International Universities with many prestigious awards to his credit.

He is the only veena artiste who has played veena for more than 2,000 film songs for south Indian cinema industry. He has the distinction of performing with legendary artistes — T.N. Krishnan (violin), T.V. Gopalakrishnan (mridanga) and Prapancham Seetharam (flute) — for a veena-venu-violin trio and also having participated in an orchestra of Lalgudi Jayaraman’s compositions in Singapore National Arts Council.
