Linda Nolan dies at 65 after cancer battle with sisters by her side as tributes pour in
by Simon Duke · ChronicleLivePop icon and TV personality Linda Nolan has died at the age of 65, after a long battle with cancer, as tributes pour in for the much loved star.
In a statement released to the Mirror, early on Tuesday afternoon, her agent Dermot McNamara, said: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Nolan the celebrated Irish pop legend, television personality, Guinness World Record holding West End star, Sunday Times bestselling author and Daily Mirror columnist.
"She passed at around 10:20am at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on the MCEW Ward. The family said the hospital couldn’t do enough, they were tireless and made it so much more bearable."
The Mirror reports that the statement continued: "She passed peacefully, with her loving siblings by her bedside, ensuring she was embraced with love and comfort during her final moments. Linda's legacy extends beyond her incredible achievements in music and entertainment. She was a beacon of hope and resilience, sharing her journey to raise awareness and inspire others. Rest in peace, Linda. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten."
Along with her sisters, Linda enjoyed huge pop fame with The Nolans, best known for their late 70s chart smash I'm In The Mood For Dancing, as well as tasting great success overseas and being huge in Japan. The family collective reunited for a massive arena tour in 2009, before Brookside and The Bill star Bernie Nolan's death in 2013 at the age of just 52.
Linda, who appeared on Celebrity Big Brother series 13, sharing a house with the likes of Jim Davison and Dappy, had been very public with her cancer battle and lengthy treatment, following her terminal diagnosis and, as soon as her passing was announced, social media was full of tribute sfor her.
One fan took to X to write: "What a strong woman, someone to be admired who faced her demise with stoic fortitude and courage. R.I.P Linda, may god keep you safe on your final journey," as another posted: "A beautiful soul who’s been through so much over the last few years. Rest in power you were amazing"
