Celtic rejection can hand club ‘historic economic turnaround’ – Player now valued at €15m
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessCeltic failed to sign Fares Ghedjemis in January, and it’s turned out beneficial for Frosinone.
The winger has been vital for the Italian club in helping them seal promotion to Serie B. He’s scored 15 times in the league, adding three assists, finding the net seven times since the start of February.
His decision to stay at Frosinone left many relieved. That has been the case with club general manager Pietro Doronzo, who expressed gratitude that the winger rejected Celtic and decided to fight for promotion.
Sport Witness covered those comments, as the Italian revealed that a move to Glasgow appeared close at one point in January.
Ghedjemis’ status has now risen and his exit can help Frosinone financially too.
Price tag has more than doubled
TuttoFrosinone note that the Algeria international will be one of the ‘hottest’ cases to resolve in the summer for the Italian club.
The decision to sign Ghedjemis has been described as a masterpiece, as he was brought in for just €300k in 2024. Frosinone know that they will find it difficult to keep the attacker and would only consider serious offers in the summer.
Their valuation now stands at €15m, which is more than double what Celtic wanted to pay in January. The Hoops put forward around €6m.
His sale can hand Frosinone a ‘historic economic turnaround’ too. Their most expensive sale is Marco Brescianini, who joined Atalanta for €10m last year. Ghedjemis’ sale will beat that.
Value can grow further
Ghedjemis made his Algeria debut this year, thanks to his exploits with Frosinone. He should play at the World Cup and if he does well, his value will rise further.
This will take him further away from a move to Celtic or a Championship club. Wolves and Norwich City have also been linked with him but his reputation can now attract Premier League clubs.
Italian teams find it easy to execute initial loan deals with other Italian clubs. English clubs’ financial strength means that they are capable of offering permanent deals, which is what Frosinone should ideally want.
Increasingly though, this is a blocked route for Celtic.
