“No fun at all” – Player told to ignore Nottingham Forest transfer, not worth it this summer
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessFeyenoord star Ayase Ueda has been told to ignore interest from the Premier League, and specifically Nottingham Forest, this summer.
Journalist René van der Gijp is not keen on the move for the 27-year-old, despite belief in Feyenoord that the striker will be moving on in the coming months. FR 12 cover his comments today.
Nottingham Forest interest
The Feyenoord forward has enjoyed his most productive season to date, finishing as the Eredivisie’s top goalscorer with 25 goals to his name. Overall, he has 40 goals and six assists in 108 games for the Dutch club.
His performances this season have not gone unnoticed. Several sides in the Premier League are, reportedly, considering moves for the striker this summer.
Nottingham Forest are believed to be among them. Reports in the Netherlands have made it clear that Feyenoord expect Ayase Ueda to depart this summer.
Indeed, Sport Witness recently covered comments from Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie on the matter. He sounded unconvinced about the striker remaining in Rotterdam.
Journalist unconvinced
Van der Gijp, though, isn’t convinced about a move to the Premier League. And he’s particularly not keen to see the striker join Nottingham Forest either.
“Then I read that Ueda has to leave now; sign for four years if you are enjoying yourself, boy. That’s nice, isn’t it? You score 23 every season,” he said on Vandaag Inside.
“Then you go to Nottingham Forest; do you know how many you score there? 4 if you are lucky and get to take the penalties. That’s no fun at all.”
For now, Ayase Ueda’s focus will be on the World Cup. He will be a part of Japan’s squad for the tournament in the United States this summer.
Once done there, attention will likely turn to transfers. With a contract until 2028, Feyenoord have no need to sell cheaply. He’s currently valued at €15m, so they’re already set for a healthy profit on the €8m they paid in 2023.
If a transfer does happen, Van der Gijp doesn’t believe that it should be to Nottingham Forest. He couldn’t be clearer about his feelings on that idea.
