Everton man admits to exit talks months ago – Had to speak to David Moyes

Everton defender Adam Aznou has confirmed he had to speak to David Moyes before sealing a move to Malaga this summer.

Diario Sur report comments from the 20-year-old today as he was formally presented by the Spanish club.

He’s joined them on a season-long loan deal from Everton. The Blues elected to send him out on loan late in the window, despite using him consistently throughout pre-season.

Indeed, the Moroccan had made a positive impression in pre-season after barely featuring for the Toffees last season following his move from Bayern Munich.

It was unclear what the plan for him was, and Aznou explains that talks with Moyes were required first.

“I spoke to Loren and Capote before the team’s promotion and I knew that if I came, I would be very happy,” he said.

“The signing could not be closed before because it was difficult to leave Everton; I had to talk to the coach to know if he counted on me, at first it seemed yes and then no.”

Return to Spain

He is now ready to kick on and insists he’s fit and firing after pre-season with the Blues. “I did preseason with Everton, I’m at the disposal of what the coach says,” he added.

The youngster is excited about a return to Spain following a previous loan spell at Real Valladolid. That experience, it seems, has allowed him to settle in easily at his new club.

“I’m very excited, I also know LaLiga and it won’t be hard for me to adapt. Malaga is a fantastic club, and this is a big city,” he concluded.

“They’ve welcomed us really well; we’re a young group, so it’s perfect for me.”

Deal long in the making

He’s now hoping for regular playing time after barely featuring for Everton last season. And it seems the move was planned for a while, even before Malaga secured promotion back to La Liga.

“I met them in Madrid before the promotion,” Radio Marca Malaga report him saying.

“We had a conversation and they told me that the best option for me was to come to Malaga. It was hard to get out of Everton, I talked to the coach to see if I counted on me, but I’m already here and I’m very happy.”
