Agent warns Manchester City chaos can impact pre-agreement for signing

The agent of Philadelphia Union’s Cavan Sullivan, Dan Segal, has warned Manchester City that it’s uncertain he will move to the Etihad despite the pre-agreement. 

The 17-year-old was born in Philadelphia and joined his hometown club at 14 years of age in 2020.

Philadelphia Union have an agreement in place Manchester City to transfer him once he turns 18 years of age in September 2027. This means he can’t move to the Etihad until January 2028.

The youngster turned 17 on Monday and has to wait for close to 18 months to move to the UK.

Sullivan was initially part of the MLS side’s academy and made his way into their first team in 2024. He managed 10 goals and nine assists from 49 matches so far. His rise saw him make his debut for America’s senior team in their 4-1 win over Peru at the weekend.

Manchester City’s uncertainty concerning 

Last week, the British media stated the Citizens have been found guilty of 114 violations of breaching the Premier League’s financial regulations. This isn’t official yet, and the Etihad club are awaiting the final judgement.

If found guilty, Dan Segal hints the existing pre-agreement with Manchester City may be of no use. Tuesday’s print edition of Sport relays his comments.

“It’s true that there’s a pre-agreement with them for Sullivan, but you never know what might happen. We hope they resolve everything in the best possible way,” he said.

Euro giants keeping an eye on Manchester City 

Several clubs are awaiting the judgment about the investigation against Enzo Maresca’s side.

This includes Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, who are all eager to sign Cavan Sullivan.

The newspaper states these clubs can battle it out for the youngster if his move to Manchester City doesn’t go through.

His representative remains hopeful the English club can resolve the uncertainty. If they are sanctioned, the American may have to look elsewhere.

This presents an opportunity for Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG or other clubs to reach a pre-agreement with Philadelphia Union for Sullivan’s future transfer.
