Manchester City discussing midfielder’s pathway – CFG want deal before World Cup
by Pedro Reinert · Sport WitnessManchester City’s wider scouting operation appears to be moving beyond simple monitoring when it comes to midfielder Pedro Vite.
Fresh reports suggest discussions are already taking place over where the Ecuadorian international would fit within the City Football Group setup.
The 24-year-old has quickly become one of the standout names linked to the group after recent scouting activity in Mexico.
As previously covered, City Football Group representatives travelled to the country earlier this month to watch matches and meet local contacts. At the time, nobody publicly attached specific names to the trip. However, that has changed pretty quickly.
Now according to TUDN Mexico, the City Football Group are still pushing to sign Pedro Vite before the 2026 World Cup.
And the interesting part is that the conversation already seems to be moving beyond whether they want him.
Discussion already shifting towards pathway
The latest claims suggest internal talks are now happening over where Pedro Vite would actually play inside the City Football Group structure if the move goes through.
Girona, New York City FC, Troyes and Palermo have all been mentioned as possible landing spots. However, the report also leaves the door slightly open to something bigger.
Manchester City themselves are not completely ruled out.
That still feels like the less likely route right now, and it is important to stress that most of the reporting has centred on the wider CFG network rather than Pep Guardiola’s immediate plans. Still, it is notable that the possibility is even being mentioned internally.
Usually, when these stories first emerge, the discussion is simply about scouting or interest. This already sounds a bit further down the road.
Why Vite makes sense for CFG
Pedro Vite joined Pumas UNAM from Vancouver Whitecaps in July 2025 and has adapted quickly to Liga MX.
The Ecuador international has become one of Pumas’ most important creative players. He mainly operates as an attacking midfielder. However, he is comfortable drifting into more central areas to dictate play.
Technically sharp, left-footed and agile in tight spaces, he fits the kind of profile the group regularly targets across multiple leagues.
The reported valuation currently sits around €14m (£12m), which would become a record sale for Pumas UNAM.
The sooner the better
According to the report, the City Football Group want to move before the World Cup. This is because they expect Pedro Vite’s value to rise if Ecuador have a strong tournament and he performs well.
That has become a familiar strategy for multi-club groups and elite sides alike. They aim to get the deal done before the global spotlight pushes the price even higher.
At this stage, there is still no confirmation of formal negotiations or a final decision on which club would receive him.
Even so, the tone around this situation is changing towards the early stages of a deal.
