Arsenal intermediaries make approach for big signing – ‘Obvious’ player and agent give green light

by · Sport Witness

Arsenal are battling with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain for Atlético Madrid’s Julián Alvarez in the summer.

Last month, we relayed news both Arsenal and PSG are convincing him to snub the La Liga winners.

On May 7th, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that the striker is ‘fully aware’ of Arsenal, PSG and Barcelona’s interest.

The source said the Argentina international aims to seek clarity over his future before the World Cup.

This report surfaced days after Diego Simone said “it’s normal’ the Premier League side and other clubs are keen.

Encouragement for Arsenal and other suitors

The Madrid club finished the season with a 5-1 loss to Villarreal. After the match, Diego Simeone said Julián Alvarez has to make a decision on his future.

Cadena Ser relay the manager’s quote and provide an update from their journalist, Pedro Fullana, on the 26-year-old’s situation.

He says Atlético Madrid are aware of developments regarding his possible summer exit. Their CEO, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, wants to collect a big fee if there’s a sale without a mention of a figure.

Barcelona made an approach with Ferran Torres plus cash in exchange for the World Cup winner, but the Spaniard doesn’t want to join Los Rojiblancos.

As well as Hansi Flick’s side, the journalist covers the Gunners and the Ligue 1 winners’ interest in the South American.

“There have been intermediaries with connections to PSG and Arsenal who have also inquired with Atlético,” he said.

“It’s obvious that the club knows that when all this is happening, it’s because Julián’s agents, and therefore Julián himself, have given the green light for discussions about his future away from Atlético Madrid.”

The journalist adds the Madrid club have changed their stance on selling the frontman and explains why. This as an encouragement for Mikel Arteta’s side and his other suitors.

“There’s one name that stands out above the rest. That’s Mateu Alemany, who knows that Apollo will invest very little, if anything. So, the financial activity in the transfer market will be the same as in recent seasons,” Fullana explained.

Alvarez’s sale for a big fee can allow Los Rojiblancos to use those funds to reshape their squad in the upcoming window.
