Rio Ngumoha to Bayern Munich pushed in Germany – January attempt for Liverpool ace
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessBayern Munich want to improve their attack next year and have Liverpool‘s Rio Ngumoha on their target list.
The 18-year-old joined the Reds’ youth system in 2024 after ending his eight-year spell at Chelsea. In January 2025, Arne Slot promoted him to the first team, and he’s now a fixed member of Andoni Iraola’s squad.
The winger has scored two goals and contributed three assists in 1,586 minutes from 42 matches for Liverpool. This includes two assists in 12 matches this season.
Why Bayern are targeting Liverpool ace
Vincent Kompany’s side have the youngster on their radar and Bild cover the latest about their interest.
The Bundesliga winners wanted a new left winger in the summer window to provide cover and competition for Luis Díaz. The main target was Bradley Barcola, but the Bavarian club backed out because of Paris Saint-Germain’s high demand.
Liverpool secured Barcola’s services for €125m plus bonuses towards the end of the window. Bayern Munich want to sign an attacker next summer, but the series of events could force them to change their plans.
Jamal Musiala hasn’t featured since the last international break because of an injury. Díaz, Serge Gnabry and summer signing Ismael Saibari have joined him in the treatment room. This leaves Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Lennart Karl as the only fit attackers at Bayern.
Liverpool player on target list
The injury situation is likely to force the German champions to sign at least one attacker as early as January.
Both Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha and Manchester United youngster JJ Gabriel are attacking targets. Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has publicly hailed the latter as an exceptional talent. Gabriel, as per the latest reports, is heading towards Spain.
The Allianz Arena club wanted to strengthen their attack next summer and could alter their plans.
Bild states: ‘Winter signings are always a risk, but Bayern want to bring in a winger in the summer anyway, like the talented Rio Ngumoha or Manchester United’s academy graduate JJ Gabriel. Therefore: better to strike now. The money is there.’
If this report is to be believed, Bayern Munich will make an attempt to sign Ngumoha in the next window.
In September 2025, he signed a new contract until 2028. The Anfield club will have to act fast and offer him another extension to hold on to their young talent.
