Hope for Bournemouth permanent transfer despite ‘impossible’ clause
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessChristos Mandas has barely been given any opportunities across the season, and the goalkeeper’s situation at Bournemouth remains uncertain.
The Greek stop moved away from Lazio to seek more playing time after a frustrating first half of the campaign. He didn’t play even once in Serie A, despite having impressed under Marco Baroni in the 2024/25 season.
Bournemouth was initially seen as a positive step but things haven’t changed.
He has been on the bench eight times in a row, operating clearly as a back-up to Đorđe Petrović.
Despite this, Lazio are hoping that he joins the Cherries permanently.
News on Bournemouth contract
LaLazioSiamoNoi note that Mandas’ intentions on his move to Bournemouth were clear. He simply wanted to play more often but his only appearance this season came in the Coppa Italia against AC Milan.
The Cherries inserted an obligation to buy in the Greek’s contract. It would only be triggered if Andoni Iraola’s side qualify for the Champions League.
Lazio are aware that this is currently looking ‘impossible’, with Bournemouth 12 points away from the top-four. Despite this, the Rome side are hopeful of a permanent deal, which will likely go through for a lower fee than the terms of the obligation to buy.
Iraola’s side remain doubtful about the scenario, having yet to make a final decision about the goalkeeper.
Bournemouth should seek discount
Mandas proved himself enough at Lazio last season. There was a point when many expected him to become a regular under Maurizio Sarri.
He was linked with a move to Juventus in January. Other Premier League clubs have also tried to sign him.
It shows he is good enough to play regularly for Bournemouth and is fighting against an established pecking order.
The South Coast side should be aware of how good he is, though. That is why signing him at a discounted price in the summer will make sense.
Lazio are struggling financially and would be likely to accept a lower fee. This can hand Bournemouth an opportunity at signing a proven shot-stopper, so that he can be more involved next season.
