‘Almost there’ – Intermediaries confident on Liverpool exit, personal terms agreed
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessLiverpool‘s Curtis Jones has been linked with a move to Inter Milan and there is rising hope a deal can go through soon.
Sport Witness have already covered a meeting between Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio and Richard Hughes two months ago. This led to Inter making a €20m opening offer for the midfielder, whose current deal runs out in the summer of 2027.
He has refused to renew his contract, having been close to joining the Italian champions in January. Their inability to move on Davide Frattesi made sure that Jones stayed at Liverpool.
Now, positive signs are emerging that he could join Cristian Chivu’s side this summer.
Reds’ stance could soften
Quotidiano Sportivo explain Jones wasn’t part of Liverpool’s squad for the two friendlies against Como last week. While he is dealing with a minor hip injury, it is seen as a sign of his intentions regarding a move to Inter.
The outlet report that the Reds’ demand stands at €40m, but there is a chance the deal can close at around €35m.
Gianluigi Longari offers more hope to Inter, clarifying that personal terms between Chivu’s side and Jones have been in place since February.
This total agreement has given Inter a big chance at a late move. Intermediaries that are trying to iron out the deal are confident Liverpool’s demands will reduce soon.
Today onwards, the two clubs could come in contact once again. The journalist sees this as a decisive move, with an agreement ‘almost there’ between the parties.
Our take: Player push key
Curtis Jones’ desire for the transfer is likely holding the key to this transfer. The player likely has Premier League interest, but despite that he is pushing for Inter.
The Nerazzurri are the masters of cut-price deals, with Beppe Marotta still at the helm as CEO. It would be a classic Inter deal, especially as they’ve already signed Jones’ compatriot John Stones on a free transfer.
While this would raise the level of their midfield, the 25-year-old may not play as regularly as he wants.
