Newcastle United and Chelsea ‘ready to attack’ for transfer – Debate over accepting €50m offer
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessThe impressive Mile Svilar finds his future uncertain, with Newcastle United and Chelsea handed a transfer opportunity.
The goalkeeper is one of the best in his position right now in Serie A. He has grown exponentially since he was initially only a back-up under Jose Mourinho.
Since Daniele De Rossi took over, Svilar has become one of Roma’s most reliable players. This season, he has played 31 times in Serie A, now also impressing under Gian Piero Gasperini.
Despite his impact, the Giallorossi are sixth in the table and can miss out on the Champions League once again. This can give a big chance to Newcastle United and Chelsea to sign the goalkeeper.
Roma considering their finances
Leggo – relayed by SiamoLaRoma, report that even if Roma can still make it to the top four, they are preparing for a major revolution. They have struggled over the past few weeks, prompting the Friedkin group to take action.
Gasperini knows that a failure to seal top four will make his task more difficult. Mile Svilar, as a result, is one of the players who can leave in the summer as he is one of their most valuable assets.
Newcastle United and Chelsea are ‘ready to attack’ for the 26-year-old and a fee of around €50m can be considered enough. Roma are still considering the player’s value but the lure of a capital gain can force an exit.
Previously, Sport Witness have covered claims of a €50m price tag. We considered that to be apt because of Roma’s constant struggles with FFP, especially since Svilar joined on a free transfer.
Our take: Svilar fits right in at Chelsea and Newcastle United
Chelsea have faced their fair share of goalkeeping worries this season with Robert Sanchez between the sticks. They will probably seek someone more reliable in the summer and Mile Svilar fits the bill very well.
He is also at the right age and already boasts a large amount of European experience already. The Serbian is famously quick off his line and is very pro-active when he is between the sticks. Even on the ball, he has improved quite a bit over the last couple of seasons.
Newcastle United also have uncertainty around their goalkeeper position, and Magpies links make sense.
In this case, Roma may not even have a choice. They have always been under the radar of Financial Fairplay and this can be time for a big sale.
