Bruno Guimaraes: Arsenal reach €90m + bonuses agreement with Newcastle United

Arsenal have reached an agreement in principle with Newcastle United for the signing of Bruno Guimaraes, with a €90m fee finally swaying the Magpies.

L’Equipe report that Arsenal have managed to convince Newcastle to sell the Brazilian international after weeks of negotiations.

According to the newspaper, Bruno Guimaraes’ move from Newcastle to Arsenal is now in the final stages. The 28-year-old reached an agreement with Arsenal weeks ago on a contract running until 2031.

However, the Premier League champions have taken their time in meeting Newcastle’s demands for their star man. The Magpies had been hoping to close a deal worth €100m for their captain.

Newcastle United have already rejected two Arsenal bids, first at €70m and then at €80m. Arsenal have maintained the pressure, making a new offer worth a base fee of €90m on Friday. This is without bonuses and agent commissions, which are still to be negotiated.

There is, though, a feeling that the deal could go through in the coming days. Guimaraes is certainly keen on the switch and has been holding on to the dream for the past month.

Bruno Guimaraes’ dream move

Bruno Guimaraes had informed Newcastle officials and his manager that he wanted to leave to play in the Champions League. Newcastle United have already signed Aladji Bamba from Newcastle to replace him directly.

Eddie Howe has also departed, another major milestone. He was ‘very close’ to Guimaraes in the dressing room. The suggestion from L’Equipe is that his departure has only increased the Brazilian’s desire to depart.

Now Arsenal are closing in on a €90m plus bonuses deal after upping their bid for a third time. There is still the question of bonuses and agent fees to be resolved, though.

There’s no indication that will be a problem, however, and the growing feeling is that Guimaraes will be an Arsenal player before too long.
