Weekend trip convinces player on Leeds United – Transfer now imminent

Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Michael Zetterer is now expected to join Leeds United, having undergone a rapid change of heart.

Kicker report that the 31-year-old could be on his way to Elland Road after all as they seek a new number two behind James Trafford.

The newspaper reports that Zetterer is already facing a potential departure from Frankfurt just a year after his arrival. That has come as ‘quite a surprise’.

Kicker report as recently as the middle of last week, their information from sources close to the player was that he is happy in Frankfurt and not pushing for a move. Now a transfer is said to be imminent.

Agent denial confused everyone

His agent even emphasised as much to BILD on Friday. “We are very surprised by reports that Michael Zetterer is on the verge of a move,” he said.

“They are untrue. Michael and his family feel very comfortable in Frankfurt. A transfer is currently out of the question for him.”

But despite these comments, Zetterer flew to Leeds over the weekend anyway. He wanted to take a look at the set up in person. Following that brief visit, he now appears open to the idea of moving to Elland Road.

A report today hinted that a deal was more than possible, although Zetterer was not pushing for the move.

€5m transfer fee

The two clubs are now discussing a transfer fee of €5m. That’s the same fee that the German club paid for him last summer.

The player is even, reportedly, ready to come to terms with being number two behind Trafford under Daniel Farke. The newspaper is unclear whether Lucas Perri needs to depart before a deal can be signed, or the opposite, though.

However, it is now looking increasingly likely that Zetterer will end up at Leeds before the end of the transfer window. Frankfurt are already working on signing replacements, with Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu at the top of their wish list.
