“Best of my career” – Player hasn’t forgotten Norwich City spell and is seeking England return
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessBologna signed Jonathan Rowe from Marseille last summer, and the winger has now looked back on his spell at Norwich City in the Championship.
In the summer, Sport Witness covered how clubs in England were trying to bring him back to the country. Bologna beat them to his signature, paying €19.5m for a permanent deal.
The 22-year-old has contributed to ten goals in all competitions this season. He scored an important goal against Cremonese at the weekend, helping Bologna to a 2-1 win.
This came right after Rowe contributed to three goals in two legs against AS Roma in the Europa League.
As a result, his profile has risen in Italy and Rowe is starting to become the centre of attention.
Corriere di Bologna have spoken to him about his career so far, as the player looked back on his time at Norwich City.
Norwich City season was best of career
Rowe was directly asked if his ongoing spell is the best of his career. He admitted that his last campaign at Carrow Road was probably better.
“It’s the best moment since I arrived in Bologna, the best of my career remains my last year at Norwich City in the Championship. I played very often, I scored a lot of goals (12), some important ones.”
He also spoke of how Osgood-Schlatter syndrome impacted his time at Norwich City.
“It’s normal. As you grow, your body changes: you deal with ligament and joint pain. Osgood-Schlatter affects the knee and is common in many young players.
“Injuries are part of football, especially now that we play so much. There are many risks, also due to the way I play, as I’m often tackled. I work hard on recovery and prepare my body as best I can to maximise my physical potential and be 100% ready for every match.”
Rowe also said that he wants to play in the Premier League.
“It’s the best league in the world. Making my debut in 2021 was an honour and made me want to play a lot of games there. You always aspire to the highest level. I don’t know when, but I want to play there again one day.”
Rowe appears grateful and humble
The England U21s star has clearly come a long way despite Osgood-Schlatter syndrome and he remains humble in his approach.
It is rare to see an English footballer have spells in France and England at a young age. Rowe has never backed away from a challenge, having also fought through well at Bologna.
It is also easy to forget that his 12-goal season at Norwich City was only his second full season at the club. That shows how far he has come in a short time, also winning the U21s European Championship last year.
The next goal for Rowe should be winning silverware. Bologna won the Coppa Italia last season and are very much in the running to win the Europa League this time around.
