Noah Kahan brought out Chappell Roan for a surprise performance of her song ‘California’ at the Rose Bowl – watch footage below.

The Vermont singer-songwriter played the Pasadena, California stadium last night (August 15) as part of his ‘The Great Divide Tour’, performing a huge 27-track set to a sold-out crowd.

During the final section, he welcomed Roan to the stage and they played ‘California’, the song from her 2023 debut album ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess‘ that she wrote about leaving her home in Missouri to make a career in Los Angeles.

“Noah always stands up for me, he’s a good person, for real,” Roan told the crowd, before he joined her on acoustic guitar for the performance.

Kahan has publicly supported Roan a number of times, dating back to their co-headline show at Iowa’s Hinterland Festival in 2024, when he said he was “really here for Chappell Roan” and described watching her set as the “most electric shit ever”.

Last year, he matched her $25,000 donation to support healthcare access for struggling musicians, and earlier this year, he defended Roan against “scummy” professional autograph “scalpers” after she was surrounded by photographers in Paris.

Kahan’s tour is in support of his fourth album ‘The Great Divide‘, which was released in April. He performed the title track and ‘Doors’ on Saturday Night Live in May. The North American leg of the tour continues this week, before heading to Glasgow, Manchester and London in November. He has also recently been jokingly calling on Congress to get involved and force his fans to wear diapers to gigs, after some were found to be defecating on the floors of his shows.

Roan, meanwhile, made a surprise appearance during Rosalía’s show in Oakland last month, where she made a confession about the meaning of her song ‘Casual’.

She is also on the bill for Olivia Rodrigo’s all-female Daisy Chain Fields festival in California on August 29, and she has announced a two-night benefit event in Los Angeles for October to raise money for trans youth and LGBTQ+ communities.
