The Jonathan Majors film Magazine Dreams will come to cinemas next year after being dropped by Searchlight Pictures over his conviction for domestic abuse and harassment of his ex-girlfriend.

Briarcliff Entertainment has now acquired the project, which will be released theatrically in the first quarter of 2025. The exact date has not yet been confirmed.

The film tells the story of an aspiring bodybuilder named Killian Maddox who abuses steroids in his mission to become a sports icon.

“Elijah’s film made a well-deserved splash in Sundance and Briarcliff is looking forward to taking his story to the big screen across the country in early 2025,” Briarcliff’s CEO Tom Ortenberg said in a statement.

“Jonathan Majors’ transcendent performance as Killian Maddox will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most compelling and transformative roles in recent cinema history. We are honored to bring this extraordinary work to theaters nationwide, inviting audiences to witness a story that will resonate long after the credits roll.”

He was found not guilty of one count of assault in the third degree and one count of aggravated harassment in the second degree. Majors avoided prison and was instead sentenced to probation.

Although Majors was replaced by Robert Downey Jr. as the main villain of the next two Avengers movies, which he said left him “heartbroken”, he landed a role in the independent revenge thriller Merciless, which will be helmed by Martin Villeneuve, the younger brother of Dune director Denis Villeneuve.
