‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ actor Nicholas Pryor dies, aged 89

He also starred alongside Tom Cruise in the film 'Risky Business'

Beverly Hills, 90210 actor Nicholas Pryor, has died, aged 89.

Pryor, who was best known for portraying Clare Arnold’s (Kathleen Robertson) dad Chancellor Milton Arnold in the show and Tom Cruise‘s in the film Risky Business, died of cancer at his home in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Monday (October 7). His wife, actress Christine Belford, confirmed the news via The Hollywood Reporter.

Pryor appeared in a number of movies included The Falcon And The Snowman (1985), Morgan Stewart’s Coming Home in 1987, Pacific Heights (1990), Sliver (1993), Collateral Damage (2002), The List (2007), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014), Doctor Sleep (2019) and Halloween Kills (2021).

Other TV shows he appeared in included Alfred Hitchcock PresentsEight Is EnoughM*A*S*H, Little House On The Prairie, DallasSt. ElsewhereL.A. Law and The West Wing.

Actor Jon Lindstrom who worked with Pryor on Port Charles was one of the first to announce his death on social media.

He wrote: “It is my solemn task to announce the passing of the great Nicholas Pryor. Nick was an Actor’s actor, and an exceptional friend. He passed on October 7, 2024, surrounded by loving family.

Lindstrom continued: “To me, he was my friend. One of the best I’ve ever had. He was a mentor, a sounding board, a trusted confidant, and even a father-figure beyond, yes, playing my own father on #GH and #PortCharles. And he was one of the funniest people you could hope to spend time with over a bottle of good wine and a great meal. I will miss him terribly.”

Belford, Pryor’s fourth wife, married in July 1993 and they worked together on Beverly Hills, 90210. He is also survived by his daughter, Stacey, and his grandchildren, Auguste and Avril.

Earlier this summer, Beverly Hills, 90210 star Shannen Doherty, also passed away at the age of 53 after a nine-year battle with breast cancer.

David Gail, who played her fiancé in the show, also died in January, aged 58.
