The character will be “a member of a small but mighty community of forgotten toys that live in an abandoned backyard shed”

Bad Bunny will play a talking pizza slice in the much-anticipated latest instalment in the Toy Story franchise.

Toy Story 5 is arriving in cinemas on June 19, and it will pick up after Woody left to stay with Bo Peep at the end of the last film. Jessie is now the leader of Bonnie’s room, with Buzz Lightyear her second-in-command. However, Bonnie is now enamoured with her new favourite toy, a frog-like tablet named Lilypad.

Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack return in the leading voice roles, with Greta Lee voicing Lilypad. Other new cast members this time around include Conan O’Brien and Alan Cumming, but it is Bad Bunny that has caught many by surprise.

Disney have confirmed that the Puerto Rican superstar will lend his voice to ‘Pizza with Sunglasses’, who is described as “a member of a small but mighty community of forgotten toys that live in an abandoned backyard shed”.

Andrew Stanton, a Pixar veteran who directed Finding Nemo and WALL-E, is directed a Toy Story film for the first time, although he has been credited as a writer on all four previous instalments.

In December 2024, Allen described the new movie as a “very, very clever story”. “Do you wanna do five of these [movies]? I don’t really believe it’s about the money. I’m sure they want it to be a success, but that’s not why they did it. Had they not come up with a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have done it and they wouldn’t have called me and Tom [Hanks]. It’s really clever.”

NME gave Toy Story 4 a glowing five-star review upon its release. “Toy Story 4 is another masterpiece from Pixar,” the review read. “While never quite reaching the emotional highs of its predecessors, it’s arguably the most thought-provoking offering of the entire series and one which entirely justifies its existence. In short, it’s the return to the toy chest that we never knew we needed.”

Bad Bunny, whose much-discussed Super Bowl halftime show this year became the most-watched of all time, has been acting more regularly in recent years, appearing in Bullet TrainHappy Gilmore 2 and Caught Stealing.
