Hollywood star Danny Glover has revealed he has been living with Alzheimer’s disease in a new interview.

The award-winning actor sat down with NBC’s Today programme to discuss his diagnosis, which has slowed his speech and movement, as well as affecting his memory. “I can live with it in a sense” he said of his current condition, adding: “I’m sure, as it advances, things are going to be different and changing.” The full interview is below.

Beginning his career in the late ‘70s, Glover is best known for the role of Roger Murtaugh, the weary police sergeant paired with live wire partner Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) in the Lethal Weapon franchise, which ran for four movies between 1987 and 1998. He was also the star of sci-fi action film Predator 2, the first Saw movie, and Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums. Outside of acting, he is known for his work fighting for civil rights around the world, which led to him being awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 2022 Oscars. It was shortly after this honour that Glover received his diagnosis.

During the interview, he shared stories about interacting with fans of the Lethal Weapon franchise, including one fan who referenced a scene in the second film where his character was trapped on a toilet which contained a bomb. “I’ve had signing events where someone would bring their toilet up and I would sign it,” he said with a chuckle. He also named his favourite performance as 1984’s Places In The Heart, a Depression-era drama co-starring Sally Field.

A fifth Lethal Weapon movie has been in development for some time, with Mel Gibson revealing in 2024 that he would take over directing duties after the death of franchise director Richard Donner. “He was a good friend,” he said of the late filmmaker. “He kind of tasked me with carrying the flag home on [Lethal Weapon 5] so it’ll be an honour for me to do that.”
