Met Office issues new rain warning for Devon after Storm Bert chaos

Forecasters have issued another yellow rain warning in Devon after the recent chaos caused by Storm Bert. The latest Met Office warning is in place from 10pm tonight (Tuesday, November 26) until 12pm tomorrow.

The yellow warning covers a large part of South Devon, including Ashburton, Totnes, Torbay, Dartmouth, Ivybridge and Salcombe. The Exeter-based forecaster has warned that up to 40mm of rain could fall in some places.

The Met Office said: "An area of rain is expected to reach parts of southern England overnight Tuesday, becoming persistent and heavy in places for a time. Much of the warning area will see 15-20 mm of rain with 30-40 mm in some areas.

"There is a lower chance of 50 mm of rain in a few places, more likely for the Isle of Wight, Sussex and Kent, before rain eases and clears by early afternoon. Given recent wet weather, some disruption to travel and infrastructure is likely."

Forecasters have outlined what to expect during the warning:

• Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
• Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
• Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
• Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely

The latest rain warning comes just days after Storm Bert thrashed Devon and the wider region. Heavy rainfall sparked widespread flooding, road closure and train cancellations throughout the weekend.
