Met Office issues new weather warning in Devon as freezing weather grips county
by Toby Codd · DevonLiveForecasters have issued a warning for ice across Devon and the South West. The Met Office yellow warning is in place from 5pm today (Thursday, November 21) until 10am tomorrow.
The Exeter-based forecaster said that icy patches could lead to treacherous travelling conditions. It comes after Devon has been hit by a large band of snowfall today, with road closures, train cancellations and school closures.
The latest ice warning covers Dorset, parts of Somerset, Devon, Plymouth and eastern Cornwall. Forecasters expect temperatures to drop below freezing in these areas overnight.
The Met Office said: "Icy stretches are expected to form on untreated surfaces during Thursday evening and overnight into Friday morning as temperatures drop below freezing.
"A few wintry showers are also likely at times, particularly across the far west of the warning area, which may give a further 1 to 2 cm snowfall above 200 metres."
The forecaster has outlined what to expect during the warning:
- Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
- Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
