France has imposed strict measures to prevent further spread of hantavirus after one of the five passengers who returned from an infected ship tested positive.

The passengers, plus anyone who has been in contact with them or others with "a serious risk of infection" can be subject to up to 42 days' isolation, according to a decree passed today.

The French national tested positive for hantavirus today after being evacuated Sunday from the virus-stricken cruise ship at the center of the outbreak, the country’s Health Minister Stéphanie Rist confirmed.
