Who Is Seth Harp? Meet The Journalist Under Fire For Getting Delta Force Info From Courtney Williams
Army veteran Courtney Williams' charges for leaking information about classified military tactics have shifted the spotlight on investigative journalist Seth Harp.
by Riddhika Das · BollywoodShaadisA new federal case involving the alleged leaks of classified military information has cast the spotlight on American investigative journalist Seth Harp. At the centre of the firestorm is Courtney Williams, a U.S. Army Special Operations Command veteran who allegedly transmitted classified information about military tactics to Harp for his book.
On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Williams was charged with leaking sensitive defense information despite having signed a "Classified Information Nondisclosure Agreement" when she was hired in 2010 and again when she left in 2015. Here's why Seth Harp's name has been linked with the case.
What are the FBI's charges against Courtney Williams?
Williams, 40, was arrested for allegedly disclosing classified national defense information, along with Delta Force tactics, to journalist Seth Harp. For those unaware, Delta Force, aka the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta (1st SFOD-D), is the U.S. Army's elite unit for special operations and counter-terrorism. Only a select few candidates are selected to join the Delta Force through rigorous training and gruelling trials.
When Williams joined the force in 2010, she was only 24 years old and was intrigued by the "special mission unit" job opportunity. She was the only woman in the unit, and after what she described was a "living hell", she shared a detailed account of her experience with investigative journalist Seth Harp. When Seth released his book, The Fort Bragg Cartel: Drug Trafficking and Murder in the Special Forces, it sparked a nationwide fallout.
Why Seth Harp's book sparked controversy, and how the journalist got linked to Courtney Williams
Seth Harp's years of investigation were published in the form of a controversial book in August 2025. The investigative exposé revealed details about the alleged reality of Special Forces units at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, including information about alleged drug trafficking, crimes, and corruption inside the elite force. While the information sparked controversy, it also made Cortney Williams a target of investigation as she was a key insider whom Harp interviewed for his book.

Prosecutors allege that some of the information that Williams provided was sensitive and not meant to be disclosed to anyone, as per her agreement. On Wednesday, the Army veteran was indicted under the Espionage Act. Court filings claim the two exchanged around 180 messages and spent hours on calls, citing document transfers and information labelled for a "reporter." Prosecutors allege that the information could put many lives at risk.

After graduation, he got his training for investigative journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Before becoming a professional journalist, he spent five years as an Assistant Attorney General for the state of Texas.
Harp's work has appeared in major outlets, including The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The Intercept. Investigative outlets like WIRED and Rolling Stone have largely featured many of his works. He is mainly known for his fearless take on journalism and exposé stories, taking on matters that most avoid due to sensitivity concerns, such as the intersection of armed conflict.
Harp's book, The Fort Bragg Cartel: Drug Trafficking and Murder in the Special Forces, was issued in Williams' indictment along with an excerpt from a Politico article based on the book. The veteran had reportedly texted Harp, saying she was concerned with "the amount of classified information being disclosed." The court filing cites her text:
“Other than a few factual errors, I would definitely have been concerned with the amount of classified information being disclosed. I thought the things I was telling you so you could have a better general understanding how the [SMU] was set up or operated would not be published and it feels like an entire TTP was sent out in my name giving them a chance to legally persecute me and probably. [Person 1]”
Regarding Williams' arrest, Seth Harp has strongly defended the veteran, labelling her as a "brave whistleblower and truth-teller." In his statement, he described Williams' charges as "a vindictive act of retaliation."
