Massachusetts mom, Lindsay Clancy, has been charged with the murders of her three kids; however, she pleaded not guilty on the grounds of insanity. The shocking incident took place in 2023, and it has since become a nationwide discussion. Lindsay has been on trial, and recently a jury of nine women and three men began deliberating whether she should be held responsible for killing her three kids.

The prosecutors have been arguing that Lindsay killed her three kids intentionally, while her defense team has maintained in court that she shouldn't be held criminally responsible, as she was going through postpartum psychosis during the killing of her three kids. Amid this, Lindsay's defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, revealed how the mom of three is doing.

Lindsay Clancy is 'scared and nervous', while a prosecutor believes she killed her kids due to being 'depressed'

If the reports are to be believed, while walking out of the Plymouth County Superior Court on Thursday, August 27, 2026, Lindsay's defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, revealed that she is 'nervous and scared'. Kevin, according to the Associated Press, revealed that he believes that the jury will make the right decision.

Lindsay strangled her three kids in the basement of their home when her then-husband, Patrick Clancy, was away from home. Following that, she tried to cut her wrist and neck and jumped from the second-story window, which left her paralyzed from the waist down in an apparent suicide attempt. Speaking about the recent update on the trial, Kevin Reddington said:

"I think that they have to weigh all of this evidence, and I believe that the government ultimately has not proven their case."

On the other hand, prosecutor Jennifer Sprague didn't deny the mental health struggles that Lindsay Clancy was suffering from. To add, Lindsay's case has triggered a widespread conversation surrounding women's mental health struggles, including postpartum mental health and treatment for the women who are going through psychiatric crises.

Jennifer Sprague told the jurors on August 27, 2026, that the mental health struggles Lindsay was facing aren't the issue with the case, and the question is whether or not Clancy was aware of right and wrong while killing her three kids. According to Sprague, Lindsay killed her three children because she was 'depressed'.

Sprague mentioned that Lindsay felt 'done' and 'damaged' and wanted her misery to end; however, her kids were her protective factor, which was keeping her from what she wanted to do, and thus, she had to remove the protective factor. To quote Jennifer Sprague:

“She was exhausted. She was done. She didn’t want to try anymore. She felt damaged. But those kids, those kids were her protective factor. Those kids were keeping her from ending her misery. So she had to remove the protective factor. And I’m not saying she was happy about it. I’m saying it was what she had to do to end her misery.”

More about Lindsay Clancy case

There have been several theories out there surrounding Lindsay Clancy killing her three kids. She was reportedly begging for help for several months leading up to the deaths of her three kids. Not only that, but Lindsay also reportedly shared her thoughts about harming her children with her husband and mom. Earlier, in court, it was revealed that while killing her kids, Lindsay heard a warning from a man who instructed her to kill her kids, stating that it was her last chance.

She reportedly said, 'Go to God, ' while strangling her three children to death. Some psychologists and psychiatrists believe that it was caused by the fact that she might have been going through an acute psychosis, while another possibility is that she thought that without her, her three kids wouldn't be safe, and killing them and herself would lead them to be together. The verdict in this case is still pending.
