Meet Oracle's CEOs Clay Magouyrk and Mike Sicilia
Oracle is undergoing a major change, which has resulted in thousands of employees losing their jobs overnight. Amid the major shift, the limelight has shifted to the company's Chief Executive Officers (CEO) Clay Magouyrk and Mike Sicilia. According to the company profile, Clay has a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Memphis, and spent six years at Amazon and AWS before joining Oracle in 2014.
The website states that Clay's role focuses on building "a highly secure, reliable, performance-based cloud and providing engineering solutions". His objective is to solve customers' most complex challenges using "scalable cloud technology that transforms their business for sustained growth and innovation." He leads engineering, product strategy, technical operations, and customer success for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Quiver Quantitative estimates his net worth at roughly USD 43 million to USD 77 million.
Meanwhile, Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Saint Joseph's University, and he focuses on helping customers across every industry speed up growth and drive business success with AI-powered applications and infrastructure. He joined Oracle in 2008 and has since served in several leadership positions before becoming the company's CEO. According to Quiver Quantitative, his net worth is estimated to range between USD 34.6 million and USD 37 million.
All about Oracle's mass layoffs
"Today is your last working day", that is the email that thousands of Oracle employees woke up to. According to Business Insider, the mass layoffs have come following the massive spending spree on artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure. While the exact number of employees who were let go is not known, reports suggest that over 3,000 positions were affected in India alone.
The termination email told employees that their roles were being eliminated as part of a "broader organizational change". It did not explain why a particular employee was being let go. However, it does tell the employees that their access to Oracle's computers, email, voicemail, and files would soon be deactivated. They were also asked to provide a personal email address to receive information about severance and other separation-related documents.
The sudden nature of the communication has made the latest round particularly striking. Employees had little time between receiving the message and losing access to company systems. According to reports, while Oracle has taken away the bread and butter of thousands of employees, it is spending billions to build data centers and computing infrastructure needed for the AI boom. Oracle spent USD 28.5 billion on capital expenditure in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, more than three times the USD 8.5 billion spent in the same period of the 2026 cycle.
Oracle's workforce fell by around 21,000 employees, that is 13 percent, during fiscal 2026. Its global headcount stood at roughly 141,000 at the end of May 2026, compared with about 162,000 in 2025. It is being reported that roughly 7,000 to 10,000 global roles will be affected by the recent layoffs. However, this number can go up to 30,000.
The company also spent around USD 1.84 billion on severance payments and other restructuring-related costs during the year. Oracle has said that AI adoption and deployment were among the factors behind the workforce reduction.
