The sun seems to have set on Kanika Kapoor's married life. The singer, best known for chartbusters such as Baby Doll and Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan, has announced her separation from her husband, Gautam Hathiramani, after just four years of marriage. The news has come as a surprise to her fans and followers.
Kanika Kapoor requests privacy after announcing separation from her second husband
The singer announced the news on her Instagram Stories on November 3, 2026, saying that the couple had decided to go their separate ways after much thought and consideration. She did not say, however, whether they had filed for a divorce. Her message reads:
"Dear friends and family, after much thought and consideration, my husband and I are going our separate ways. I am grateful for the time we shared and wish him well for the future. I sincerely ask for kindness and respect for our privacy as we move forward. Love, Kanika."
The singer has also removed her pictures with him from social media. For those unfamiliar with Kanika's story, the singer gave love another chance at the age of 43 when she married NRI businessman Gautam Hathiramani in May 2022. The couple's union was widely cherished, given Kanika's years of heartbreak and trauma after her messy first marriage.
Kanika and Gautam had been best friends for 15 years, and their relationship eventually turned romantic years after the singer's divorce. In an earlier interview with ETimes, Kanika opened up about finding love again after spending nearly a decade feeling lonely. She also admitted that she had doubts about getting married for the second time because she was divorced and had three children. The singer said:
“Gautam accepts me for who I am... a mother, an artiste, a daughter and a friend... The fact that I am divorced with three children, I wasn’t sure whether I would be accepted by him and his family. For the last 10 years, I was lonely.”
Kanika's wedding was particularly special because her three children from her first marriage were part of the celebrations. Her son, Yuvraaj, who was 19 at the time, walked her to the mandap, while her daughters, Aayana and Samara, then 17 and 15, stood beside her during the pheras.
Kanika has always spoken warmly about her second husband, crediting him with making her find hope in love again. Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, she had called their relationship a "game-changer". further expressed gratitude for the support she received from Gautam, her parents-in-law, her children, and the rest of her family.
Kanika Kapoor's first marriage was full of struggles
Before Gautam, Kanika was married to NRI general practitioner Raj Chandok, with whom she tied the knot at age 18. After their marriage, she moved to London with him. Soon, she became a mother to three children: two daughters, Aayana and Samara, and a son, Yuvraaj.
Things went smoothly initially, but the marriage reportedly turned unhappy as time went by. Kanika had also spoken about how marriage changed her personality and exposed her to a lifestyle she had not experienced before. In an old interview, the singer had shared:
"Marriage exposed me to a fancy life of another level, and that kind of took over me. I was materialistic, egoistic, vain, and was full of myself, to the extent of being borderline arrogant."
Her marriage also came with challenges for her musical ambitions. During an interview with JioSaavn, Kanika revealed that her in-laws had made it clear that they did not want her to pursue singing. She eventually convinced her then-husband to let her continue practising music, promising that she would not take it up professionally.
After years of difficulties, Kanika and Raj parted ways, with their divorce taking place in 2012. Reports at the time also linked their separation to alleged infidelity, although Kanika's struggles during the marriage went beyond their personal differences.
The singer opened up in an interview with Hindustan Times about going through a very trying time in her life, including financial difficulties, a painful divorce, legal bills, and problems covering her kids' tuition. She has also claimed to have had suicidal thoughts at the time.
Despite the setbacks, Kanika stands today as one of the biggest names in Bollywood music. Her chartbusters include iconic numbers like Baby Doll, Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan, Tukur Tukur, Genda Phool, and Jugni Ji.
The reason behind Kanika Kapoor's decision to separate remains undisclosed as of now.
